Founder, Mark Miles
Mark Miles is the CEO and founder of MMCISolar as well as the inventor of AirPane technology. His first startup Iridigm Display Corporation was based on another technology he conceived known as the iMoD (Interferometric Modulator), a revolutionary concept in reflective displays for handheld devices. Qualcomm acquired Iridigm in 2004 and subsequently pursued a ten year commercialization effort which culminated in the construction of a $1B manufacturing facility in Taiwan.
Miles’ interest in renewable energy began while he was living in Japan during which he became intrigued by the untapped potential of that country’s massive geothermal resources. He co-founded HotEarth Enterprise whose mission was to create a distributed network of small scale power stations tapping energy from some of the thousands of active hot springs. This work galvanized his interest in Solar Thermal, as well as a desire to bring his talents to bear on this renewable energy sector. Upon his return to the U.S. he became immersed in the world of social impact. It is this experience which helped to refine his vision of technology in service to society.
Mr. Miles is a graduate of MIT and an inventor on over one hundred patents. During his career he has also been involved in the arts as an innovator, a performer, and technical director for a variety of projects. He pioneered “Multispace” which was a novel digital platform for visual artists, was lead guitarist and singer/songwriter for the band “Chaos Theory”, and took the role of technical director for the multi-media dance production “Google Woman”. He currently resides in Oakland, CA.
